KENNEL CLUB HISTORY

.........The St. Clairsville, Ohio Kennel Club, Inc. was founded in 1978. We are a nonprofit organization affiliated with the American Kennel Club, dedicated to the advancement, preservation and improvement of purebred dogs. Proud of our area's historical legacy which dates from the French and Indian and Revolutionary Wars and the eventual opening of the West, we were originally named Zane Trail kennel Club, and we functioned under that name for several years. However, after receiving AKC sanctioning to hold an A level match, the AKC required a current geographic-specific name, hence our current moniker.
.........After eighteen matches, many public education activities and a great many fund raisers, we achieved show status and sponsored our first All Breed Dog Show and Obedience Trial at Brush Run park in St. Clairsville. We currently have back to back shows in Mid-August, usually the third weekend.
.........SCOKC gathers the second Tuesday of the month at the Ohio Valley Mall Community Room. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. and are open to the public. You are cordially invited to attend. Following a short business meeting, you'll enjoy programs presented by breeders, trainers, veterinarians, fellow members and friends. Educational videos are sometimes shown.
.........Our monthly newsletter, The Wet Nose News, includes articles of general interest to dog owners, current advances in canine research and canine care, news alerts, updates of shows, matches, seminars, clinics and other activities, and usually a humorous article or two. Subscriptions for the general public are $10 per year.
.........SCOKC sponsors and invites you to attend our AKC All Breed Show, Obedience and Rally Trial in August, and our B-OB match in May.
.........SCOKC reaches out to our communities with a free referral service advertised in local newspapers. We help prospective dog owners find good quality puppies from reliable breeders. We provide breed information, AKC registration/transferral information and information on liter registrations, breeders' contracts, puppy contracts, and more.
.........SCOKC provides a free classroom program, "Children Living Safely With Dogs" for children in grades K through six. The program is modified for an adult audience and offered to civic organizations. Through this program, our traveling teacher and dog develop responsible pet ownership. Feedback from schools, organizations and libraries where the program has been presented has been excellent.
